Blog 5 - Movies

My mom loved going to the movies in 1980. She described it as an experience, audiences would anticipate for. They would wait days on end for a movie. Then they would walk to the movie theater, instead of going in a car. This would give them time to heighten the experience. They would discuss how the movie would be. Back then they didn't have many newspaper movie critics to give reviews and had to watch movies based on word of mouth. She is from India and watched movies as a teen there. She said there were two lines for movies- women and men. Women ware accommodate for first. She remembers watching the movie Rocky. In those days in India only one English movie was shown and rarely. The theater had two floors of seating. Her father and her sat in the balcony. It was packed with people. She remembers thinking that the movie was real. It was like magic. She says she cried a lot and needed a handkerchief. It was very impacting because it gave her a closer bond with her family.
